Where do you even start with your own estate plan?
A short session on the 4 areas every estate plan has to cover before a will is drafted, with Kerri O'Connell FCA, CTA, TEP.
Tuesday 3 November at 7.30pm
Thursday 5 November at 12.30pm
The same session runs twice. Choose the one that suits you.
Allow 30 minutes, or 40 if you stay for questions. If you register and can't attend, you'll be sent the recording.
“I should be thinking about my children, the value of my estate, and tax, but where do I even start?"
I hear a version of that sentence often, and nearly always from people who are organised in every other part of their lives.
I don't think that is a failure of effort. Almost every other piece of financial admin comes with a form, a deadline, or a professional who tells you what they need from you.
This one asks you to make decisions about your home, your family and your assets all at once, and nobody tells you which to take first.
A solicitor drafts what you tell them, and that is the right job for a solicitor. Working out what to tell them comes before it, and it is the part most people are left to do on their own.
This session is for you if you know you need a will, or need to look again at an old one, and haven't yet settled what it should say. You don't need tidy paperwork or any prior knowledge.
What the session covers
I'll go through the four areas an estate plan has to deal with before anything is drafted, in the order I'd take them.
1.The family home
Who relies on it, who could afford to keep it, and how it is held.
2. Your beneficiaries
What fairness means in your family, and why it doesn't always mean equal shares.
3. Income and who relies on yours
What would stop if you weren't there, what would continue, and for how long support would be needed.
The aim is that you leave the session able to see the whole of the plan, in order.
4. Your assets
What you own, how it is held, and what your will does and doesn't control.

Q & A
The four areas of estate planning
I'll walk you through the key decisions about your home, beneficiaries, income and assets, with opportunities to reflect on how clear you feel about each.
An introduction to the Guide
I'll introduce Your Last & Greatest Gift, my €125 estate planning Guide, and explain how it can help you work through these decisions in your own time.
Questions and answers
After the recording stops, I'll stay on to answer general questions about the Guide and the process.
There's nothing to prepare, and you won't be asked to speak or share personal information.
Your host
I'm Kerri O'Connell, a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Tax Adviser and Trust and Estate Practitioner, and the founder of Tax for Humans, a private client tax practice in Dublin.
I have spent thirty years in tax, and I have advised on trusts and estates since I qualified with STEP in 2010. In that time, I have learnt that what holds people up is rarely the technical answer. Far more often, nobody has put the questions to them in an order that makes sense and allows them to make decisions.

Practical questions about the webinar
Is the webinar free?
1
Yes. There is no charge to attend this webinar. I spend about 10 minutes on the Guide, which costs €125 including VAT.
Will I be asked to share anything?
2
No. You won't be asked to speak or to say anything about your own circumstances. At four points I ask how clear you are about the area we've just covered, and you can answer in the chat or not at all.
Do I need to prepare?
3
No. You don't need paperwork in front of you, and you don't need to know anything about tax or succession law.
What if I can't make either time?
4
Can I ask about my own situation?
I already have a will. Is this still relevant?
Does the information apply outside of Ireland?

Register for either sitting and you'll be sent the recording. It covers the four areas and the introduction to the Guide. The questions at the end are not recorded.
Not in this session. The questions at the end are about the Guide and the process. Advice on an individual position is a separate piece of work, and it needs the full facts.
Yes, if it was made some years ago or your circumstances have changed since. The same four areas apply when a will is being reviewed.
The session is based on Irish tax and succession law.
The session runs on Zoom. Your joining link arrives by email when you register, with reminders before your sitting. Times are Irish time.
I'll run the session again in January 2027
This session is general information for educational purposes. It is not tax, legal or financial advice, and attending does not make you a client of Tax for Humans.
